Quick guide

Three steps to a print-ready file

Full artwork guidelines

1. Check the resolution

Run each photo and logo through the checker. You want 300 DPI for small print and 100–150 DPI for banners – pictures saved from social media are usually too small.

2. Set the right size and bleed

Set your page to the finished size with 3mm bleed all round, and keep words at least 3–5mm away from the trim line. Our PDF templates show you where everything goes.

3. Save as a PDF and order

Save a high-quality PDF with the fonts embedded and attach it to your order. A person checks every file, and many products can be printed the same day in Manchester.

How many DPI does an image need to print well?

It depends how close people will be. Aim for 300 DPI on anything held in the hand, like business cards, flyers and stickers. Posters look good from 150–200 DPI, and banners seen from a few metres away are fine at 100–150 DPI.

How is DPI calculated?

Take the width of the image in pixels and divide it by the printed width in inches (25.4mm to the inch). An image 1800 pixels wide printed at 6 inches (152mm) works out at 300 DPI. The checker on this page does the sum for every size at once.

What is A5 in pixels at 300 DPI?

A5 (148 x 210mm) is 1748 x 2480 pixels at 300 DPI. Add 3mm bleed all round (154 x 216mm) and you need 1819 x 2551 pixels.

Why do printers ask for bleed?

Cutting is never perfect to the last fraction of a millimetre. Extending your background 3mm beyond the finished edge means the blade trims through colour, not a white line. Banners and stickers use different amounts – each product page tells you how much.

Which roller banner size is most popular?

800 x 2000mm is the size most people choose. We also print 1000, 1200 and 1500mm wide versions, all 2000mm tall.

Does the checker upload my photo?

No. The image is measured inside your own browser and never leaves your device.
